ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

The institution was founded by govt. of Punjab in 1962 to provide technical and professional training. Today, this Polytechnic is one of the oldest premier institute of North India with excellent, placement record, latest infrastructure, state of arts laboratories and high qualified faculty to provide Technical Education at Diploma level in emerging areas of technical education.

ABOUT THE SCHEME

The Community Development Through Polytechnic (CDTP) scheme is initiated by the Department of Education, MHRD, and GOI through NITTTR, Chandigarh in the year February, 2010 for the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society and rural masses free of cost. Vast majority of rural people and those in slums require assistance in adopting appropriate technology for benefiting from investment in science and technology and enhancing their productivity and standard of living. Such skill development training courses should attract beneficiaries from all cross-sections of Indian society with special emphasis on SCs/STs, OBCs, Women, school dropouts, minorities, physically disabled, economically weaker sections of the society and other under-privileged persons. The details of the training courses as well as the centers adopted for such courses are enumerated below :-

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

Free of cost skill development training programmes being imparted for six months duration through advertisement, ngo’s, and social welfare deptt.and gram panchayats. Valid cerification at the end of the training programme is given bythe Institute.

MAJOR/SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS MADE UNDER THE SCHEME TILL DATE:

  • Special batches for SC & ST categories have been started.
  • Special emphasis is being madeto provide Skill Development Training to the disables, visually impaired, SC/ST and economically weaker section of society.
  • Being a Women Institution, maximum coverage is given to the young girls & women under this scheme.
  • Trained women are now working in the production Center at Women Empowerment Center, Sector 19,Chandigarh.
  • Special emphasis is being given on awareness programs on Health and Sanitation & self-employment as envisaged under the scheme.
  • A special batch for visually impaired children for data entry operator has been started at KarunaSadan, Sector 11, Chandigarh.
  • Emphasis is being given to use solar based technologies in the rural villages in order to save energy.
  • Tree plantation campus is also being organized at the rural villages to keep the environment fresh and green and pollution free.
